“ I first met Lawrence in 2013 as a double handed casting instructor. I was going on my first steelhead trip in BC and had watched all the videos, read all the books and already had multiple sets of lessons from two different casting instructors on spey casting. However my casting ability was still horrendous and the harder I tried the worse I seem to get–I was really worried my trip was going to be a bust because I couldn’t get the line out 15 feet until I was introduced to Lawrence by a mutual friend. Within two sets of 2-3 hour lessons Lawrence had me casting well into my running line from both river left and right, with both an up-stream and down-stream cast. His philosophy was let’s simplify everything and concentrate on a few effective casts so you can fish instead of trying to teach me every cast in the book and becoming a master of none. He also brought a case full of Skagit and Scandi lines and really fine-tuned what grain weight line I cast the most effectively. Needless to say my first Steelhead trip was a huge success–17 fish landed”.
Since then Lawrence has guided me numerous times trout spey fishing with outstanding success. He really knows the water to look for and as he once said, “With trout spey, I’m looking at water the single handed guys pass up.” Lawrence is an outstanding guide who concentrates on your positives instead of what you're doing wrong. He is an excellent teacher as well as fisherman. He has a calm, relaxed personality that really puts you at ease which makes the day on the water with him quite enjoyable. I have so much confidence in him that I plan on him giving my daughter (who just moved to Bozeman) and my wife casting lessons as well as guiding them on the rivers around Bozeman.”

Getting the right gear can be a confusing experience and an inefficient use of your money and time. I'm happy to help you wade through the plethora of options and help you pick out the best gear for your needs, experience, and personal style.
I fish and guide 12 months of the year. The shoulder seasons and winter provide some of the best days for catching large fish. With the right gear and depending on the weather conditions, swinging flies in the winter can be quite productive.
